George Lucas is the "great equalizer" of actors. He gets less out of an actor than any successful director. Look at the performance of just about anyone in 1-3 vs. other performances.
Perfectly said, Bryan...have believed that for years, and I attribute it to his ego, which says all must succumb to his, and only his, vision of the final product. He is not an actor, yet refuses to let those who are execute as they are able. Sad, really.
It is amazing that, even with better special effects and (arguably) better actors, I and II are by far the worst of the series.
